I think it’s great overall! I love camp, I sure wish it was closer to me but it’s so worth it!
Advice for the host
Looking back at 2025 and 2026,I love having speakers at these events. 2025 felt like a bit much in that way and then I truly felt like an outsider besides these speakers. Me, and a few other campers just felt small outside of the teaching part. 2026 was much better, the speakers were very kind and made an effort to get to know each person. My only complaint from both years is that when they come and take photos of the styled shoot. Us campers only have so much time to pose and capture what we want. So it does become challenging when other photographers come in and start taking over on others 2 minute time limit.

I would and have recommended this retreat to any and all photographer friends I come across. Alex is so intentional in her work and that truly shines in PhotoCamp. Everyone is so welcoming and kind, everything from the accommodations to the shoots was so well planned! Every moment of the experience was truly worth while!

Be ready to SOCIALIZE!! It was a great experience to get out of my shell and meet new people with similar interests <3
Advice for the host
I loved all of the planned shoots but would have definitely loved more hands on help and guiding during the shoots. I felt comfortable but I know a lot of others in my group weren’t as confident with posing a model or just needing help with pose ideas/settings.

Such a welcoming and fun environment! I got to meet so many other photographers, some of which are now lifelong friends. It was so great to connect with other people who are similar phases and grow together. The host was so welcoming and the food was amazing!!! I grew so much in learning what type of photography I want to pursue more. Such a great experience for a beginner photographer.

What happened
I've been to Photo Camp two years in a row now, and I've had a blast both times. Everything was super organized, and every shoot looked just like the mood boards, which was awesome. Plus, it was all held at an actual summer camp, which made the whole experience even more fun and unique.
When you first get there, you're split into color groups, and that's also who you share a cabin with. It was fun getting to know other photographers, swapping tips, and learning from each other throughout the weekend.
During the shoots, you stay with your group, which I really enjoyed. (Dinner and free time was the perfect time to branch out from our groups and get to know everyone else!) The groups were pretty small, usually around 6 to 8 people, so everyone got plenty of time to shoot. We had both group posing time and individual time with the models, which I really appreciated because we were able to build off each other's posing ideas and bounce creative ideas off one another.
This year, we also had experienced photographers leading some of the shoots. They walked us through how they approach a session, shared parts of their workflow, and gave us tips on how they achieve the look they're known for. I thought that was a really valuable addition.
The speakers were all really knowledgeable, and I definitely learned a lot. Danielle's session on taxes was probably the one that stood out to me the most because it covered something I hadn't really learned anywhere else.
Overall, it was such a great experience, and I'd absolutely love to come back for a third year!

What happened
Photo Camp was extremely organized, and probably the best ran shoot/content day I've been a part of from a logistics perspective. Alex and her team were on top of it and everything ran smoothly. The shoots were great and lived up to the expectations.
What I didn't love was how many photographers were attending for free because they did hair and makeup for a shoot, or one of them modeled for a couple shoots. It also seemed as though she only invited her best friends to be speakers so that they could hang out at photo camp and take photos, too. I was initially excited to have these educators around shooting with us, but they honestly were just in the way when they could've been helpful to attendees and give pointers. Our shoots were interrupted multiple times for Alex and other content creators to make their own social media content and photo camp highlight reels. I truly believe Alex's heart is in the right place, but when I'm paying over $2,000 for a weekend retreat, these things make me not want to attend again and these are the same warnings I give my friends.
Advice for the host
Keep your focus on the experience of those who paid to be there. The speakers/educators and your content creation staff were overpowering the experience, and honestly, felt like they were more important than us. The organization and camp staff were phenomenal.

Hi!!! Thank you SO much for this feedback! You're not the only one who gave this feedback from my first two camps in 2024, so I actually changed a TON and Photo Camp now reflects exactly what I want it to - we now have a set price of $999, are at a summer camp by the beach instead of in a luxury Airbnb, and the educators/team members that come are communicated with before to make sure everything revolves around the campers as much as possible. I'd love to get to have you back as a camper again one day and hopefully give you a better experience! Thank you again for reviewing photo camp & taking the risk to come my first year of hosting it!
- Alex :)
